Leeds City Museum originally opened to the public in 1821, having been established by the Leeds Philosophical and Literary Society two years earlier. It re-opened in 2008, moving to the historic Leeds Institute on Millennium Square.
Visit our latest exhibition, Fast x Slow Fashion, to explore the relationship between clothes shopping and people in Leeds, from 1720 to the present day. The exhibit shows how clothes shops have changed, but also highlights how people have sought alternative ways to consume fashion. It is also available as an online exhibition.
The museum has an excellent on-site café serving coffee, cakes, sandwiches and more, making it a great stop for a spot of lunch. The museum shop includes locally made products, jewellery, books and specially commissioned pieces which complement our exhibitions.
