Providing shelter, sustenance and a warm welcome to thousands of hungry, thirsty travellers since the 18th Century from its tranquil location, in the tiny hamlet of Thunderbridge, near Huddersfield. As an independent, award-winning, traditional real ale pub, The Woodman Inn has an excellent selection of local ales to tempt your taste buds, including Small World Beers, brewed within a mile of the Inn with fresh spring water sourced directly from a borehole beneath the brewery, and is particularly proud of its Cask Marque, the sign of a quality real ale pub.
Our accommodation has been beautifully refurbished by local interior design team, Hardy & Day, with each room designed with its own unique character. For all you spontaneous ones out there we’ll even provide a toothbrush.
Each of our standard rooms has its own little personality, choose from our aptly named; Willow, Oak, Woodsome Beck, Beldon Brook, Fenay Beck, The Wickman Suite, Shelley Wood, Healey Greave, Hartley Bank and The Woodman Suite. A recent addition to the family is the Gower Suite, named after local artist Richard Gower, who has created prints of the window views to the gardens. Four legged friends are welcome at the Woodman Inn with several dog-friendly rooms and well-behaved pooches are welcome in the bar.
For a delicious dining restaurant experience look no further than The Woodman Inn. The luxurious decor, exquisite food and gracious waiting staff have been handpicked to create a serene ambience. Head Chef, Andy Lynam, has worked in some of the top UK’ restaurants and brings his culinary expertise to the plate with fresh season and locally sourced produce, adding a quirky twist to some Yorkshire classics. Food styled with a rustic elegance is a pleasure to look at and even more delicious to taste. We have an extensive wine list, and our team will be delighted to recommend the perfect accompaniment to your meal.
The menu is seasonal so changes all the time, but the crispy hen’s egg, and the cheese and leek tart are very popular starters and guests can’t get enough of the rump and shoulder lamb with asparagus, potato fondant and hen of the woods or Hinchcliffe Farm sirloin steak with all the trimmings. We’re starting to get quite a following for the Sunday lunch too which we reintroduced recently. One of the reasons Head Chef, Andy Lynam, was so keen to join us is that he wanted to come home to Yorkshire and make the most of its rich larder and we can’t wait to see what he comes up with next.
Our Garden Room is a beautifully decorated events space, perfect for weddings, baby showers, anniversaries or any other celebration you care to mention. A delightful rustic environment where hessian swathes, and potted Olive trees bring the outdoors undercover to create everything you want from a place to spend quality leisure time with your favourite people.
There’s plenty to see and do here at the Woodman Inn. Situated in the middle of the glorious Yorkshire peak district with stunning countryside views and a haven for keen walkers and cyclists (Colne Valley, Pennine Way and Emley Circular Trail. If you need to entertain the little ones, we’re really close to Whistlestop Valley (was Kirklees light railway) Cannon Hall Farm and Ponderosa Zoo.
